Waning Moon – A Sacred Week of Releasing, Detoxing and Cleansing

Waning Moon – A Sacred Week of Releasing, Detoxing and Cleansing

July 11–17, 2025

As the moon begins to shrink in the sky, its energy invites us to slow down, reflect, and release. The Waning Moon is a sacred period of letting go – of old habits, emotional weight, and even physical clutter. It is the perfect time to cleanse yourself on all levels: mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Rather than chasing new goals or rushing into action, this phase is about finishing, forgiving, and allowing space to emerge. This energy is quiet, grounding, and deeply restorative.

Energetic Themes of the Waning Moon

  • Detoxing your body, mind, home, and relationships
  • Releasing negative thoughts, outdated beliefs, or toxic patterns
  • Letting go of what no longer serves you
  • Restoring your energy before the New Moon arrives (July 18)

During this week, you may feel called to spend more time alone, connect with nature, or retreat inward. Honor those feelings. They are part of your spiritual rhythm.

5 Deep Rituals to Align with the Waning Moon

These rituals help you connect with the sacred energy of release, and are best done slowly, with intention. Choose one or more that resonate with your soul.

 1. Fire Ritual for Emotional Release

This is a powerful way to energetically cut ties with what you’re ready to let go of.

How to do it:

  • Sit quietly with pen and paper.
  • Write down everything you’re ready to release: fears, patterns, past hurts, limiting beliefs.
  • Fold the paper and hold it to your heart. Say aloud:“I bless these experiences for what they taught me, and I now let them go.”
  • Burn the paper in a safe fire bowl, cauldron, or outdoor campfire. Watch the smoke rise, visualizing your burdens leaving your body and spirit.
  • Breathe deeply and give thanks.

 2. Salt Bath or Shower Purification

Water cleanses not just the body but also the aura.

How to do it:

  • Fill your bath with warm water and add:
    • 1 cup of sea salt or Himalayan salt
    • A few drops of essential oil (lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary)
    • Optional: dried herbs like sage or chamomile
  • As you soak, visualize negative energy leaving your body and dissolving in the water.
  • Say to yourself:“I release heaviness. I invite peace.”
  • When finished, let the water drain and imagine it taking away all energetic residue. If you prefer showers, use a salt scrub and visualize the same cleansing process.

 3. Guided Release Meditation

Use meditation to gently move stagnant energy.

How to do it:

  • Find a quiet space. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
  • Inhale deeply, exhale slowly.
  • Visualize yourself surrounded by soft, glowing light.
  • On each exhale, release one thought, fear, or attachment.
  • You may repeat affirmations such as:“I let go of control. I trust the flow of life.”
“I release the need to be perfect.”
  • Stay with your breath for 10–15 minutes, letting yourself soften.

 4. Candle Ceremony of Surrender

Candles represent transformation – fire turns solid wax into light.

How to do it:

  • Light a single white or black candle. Sit before it in silence.
  • Reflect on what you’ve outgrown or what feels heavy in your life.
  • Whisper your feelings into the flame. Ask for clarity and release.
  • Watch the candle burn for at least 10–15 minutes, staying present.
  • Let the candle burn completely or snuff it with gratitude.

 5. Sacred Space Clearing Ritual

Clearing your environment can bring inner clarity.

How to do it:

  • Choose one room or space.
  • Open windows to let energy flow.
  • Physically clean or declutter the space mindfully.
  • Light incense, burn sage or palo santo, or ring a bell in the corners of the room.
  • Say aloud:“I cleanse this space of all stagnant energy. I welcome harmony and light.”
  • Optional: place a bowl of salt in the room overnight to absorb any lingering energies.

Bonus Practice: Lunar Journaling Prompt

Each evening this week, reflect with one of these journal prompts:

  • What am I holding onto that no longer serves me?
  • What belief about myself am I ready to release?
  • Where can I create more space – in my life or my heart?

Your Sacred Invitation

The Waning Moon is not a time for pushing or striving. It is a sacred invitation to soften. To come home to yourself. To clear the path before planting new intentions at the next New Moon.

Let this week be a quiet revolution within you – a return to your core. You don’t have to do it all at once. Just begin. Trust that letting go is a form of sacred power.

Optional Add-On: Moon Altar for the Waning Phase

If you have an altar, consider refreshing it with:

  • Black tourmaline or obsidian for grounding
  • Eucalyptus or lavender for purification
  • A bowl of salt or earth for cleansing energy
  • A waning moon symbol (carved, painted, or drawn)
  • A journal or paper to write what you’re releasing

Sit at your altar each evening and reflect, pray, or simply be.
